New York: Hodge and Campbell, 1792. Quarto, full brown sheep, spine in six compartments with gilt bands, gilt and morocco spine label, unpaginated. The second bible printed in New York after the "Self-Interpreting Bible", which was published earlier in 1792 by Hodge and Campbell. Contains both the Old and New Testaments, with separate title pages, as well as the apocrypha, and an index. "It is printed on English paper, with an Index, &c., and the metrical psalms. The Apocrypha is in a smaller type than that of the sacred text" (Catalogue of the Library of the American Bible Society, 14). This copy belonged to the Bowen family of Providence, Rhode Island. It is inscribed on the first front endpaper "Mrs. Sarah Bowen, Providence, bought in New York, July 1795, by Betsy Bowen price 30", and inscribed on the second endpaper "Capt. Ezra Bowen New York July 3, 1795 price 30 shillings currency." Ezra Bowen was a sea captain of Providence and master of the ship Voltaire, owned by Philadelphia merchant Stephen Girard. Additionally inscribed on the title page "Miss Mary Bowen October 6, 1823 in case that the child of W.E. Bowen Augustus G.M. Bowen survive me this Bible shall be left to him." A manuscript family register of the Bowen family is present on the verso of the New Testament title page, and a note regarding the death of Isaac Bowen is present at the end of the apocrypha. Joints cracked, covers scuffed and worn, couple tears to leather at spine ends, toning and scattered staining to pages, front endpaper nearly detached, rear endpaper lacking, two of the NT leaves have four inch tears through the center, and slight chipping along the margin affecting the first letter of text, some holes through NT title page.
