Clemenceau's writing depicts the political struggle over Reconstruction policy, the rights of freed people, and the constitutionality surrounding Andrew Johnson’s 1868 impeachment. His dispatches were compiled and published posthumously in English in 1928 by editor Fernand Baldensperger in this first edition.
