The Sanctity of Marriage or Marriage As It Is And Marriage As It Ought To Be. Being a Lecture Delivered Before the Society of the Students of Nature

Chicago: 1896. Octavo, stapled self wrappers, 23 pp. A scarce pamphlet advocating for radical marriage reform, containing a lecture given before an obscure organization calling themselves the "Society of the Students of Nature." The lecture compares marriage to indentured servitude, in which the woman marries for financial reasons, becoming the slave of the man. It calls for equality of the sexes, for women to learn the sciences and a trade so they can enter the contract on equal footing. It also calls for a "natural" marriage free from sexual excess such as sex during pregnancy. Two in OCLC. A good copy with soiling, mainly to covers. Item #13657
