Edinburg, Texas: Hidalgo and Starr Counties Abstract Co, [1918]. Octavo, blue stapled wrappers with black lettering, 97 pp, folding map. An abstract of title tracing the history and shifting ownership of a portion of the Llano Grande and La Blanca grants, located in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The land was originally part of a grant from the Spanish to Juan Jose Hinojosa, and the booklet begins by printing the Hinojosa family tree. From there, it traces the ownership of the land through various Mexican and Mexican American owners in the 19th and early 20th centuries, reprinting various deeds, documents and correspondence in both Spanish and English. The latter portions of the booklet document ownership by Anglos, reflecting the history of land ownership in the greater Rio Grande Valley. According to one source, "The land ownership of the Llano Grande addresses how land was transferred Spanish to Mexican and to Anglo land owners. Also, the rise of Anglo American land ownership in the Llano Grande and their control of Hidalgo County politics" (Vallejo, "The Llano Grande Grant: The Transformation of Land Ownership in the Rio Grande Valley, 1749-1910." University of Texas Rio Grande Valley only in OCLC. Foxing to covers, text block detached from wrappers. Item #13418
