Octavo, full brown leather binding, 346, [2] pp. This copy belonged to Major William Wirt Humphreys, who fought for the Confederacy and helped organize the Company B, Fourth South Carolina Infantry Regiment, also known as the "Palmetto Riflemen". With Humpheys' ownership inscriptions, pencil and ink underlinings/annotations to text, and drawing of a bird on the rear blank. A fair copy with rear cover detached, spine leather chipped with loss, front joint cracked, foxing and occasional damp staining to pages, tear to pp. 122-123 with no loss to text, lacking front endpaper.
