Berkeley: 1969. A collection of 12 newsletters, one booklet, and 16 flyers, published in May through July, 1969, alongside a wave of protests that arose at the University of California, Berkeley in response to an aggressive police response to a May 15, 1969 protest that left one protester dead and many wounded. The newsletters and mimeographed or mechanically reproduced flyers reflect a variety of perspectives on the protests, including G.I.’s, conservationists, socialists, and the Radical Student Union. There are several flyers advocating for peaceful protest, flyers announcing rallies and protests, and flyers providing information to protesters on first aid, what to do if arrested, and defending oneself in court. In very good condition overall with minor creasing, occasional chip or tear. Includes the following:

The Ecological Issue. Berkeley: Active Conservation Tactics, 1969. 4to, 2pp. Mimeographed flyer by a campus conservation group discussing the ecological importance of the park and announcing an ecology workshop.

Welcome To Berkeley. Small folio, 2pp. Informational flyer distributed to protesters introducing them to the community, discussing the importance of peaceful protest, what to do if arrested, first aid (Be aware that the pigs are using some Lannister’s that blow up in your hand…), etc.
